Mr. Wallenstein’s practice focuses on commercial real estate including purchase and sales, financings and restructuring, leasing, development, partnership, and joint venture transactions for real estate developers, lenders, and tenants.

During law school, he was the Editor-in-Chief of the SMU Law Review. Upon graduation, he worked as a law clerk for Hon. Irving L. Goldberg of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Mr. Wallenstein also served as an Adjunct Professor at Southern Methodist University School of Law (1978-1991) covering Commercial Real Estate Transactions.

Mr. Wallenstein has been named as one of the “Best Lawyers in Dallas” under the category of real estate specialty, in all issues of the survey that have been published to date by D Magazine. He has been named as one of the “Top Real Estate Lawyers in Texas” in all issues of the survey that have been published to date by Texas Monthly. In the October 2002 edition of Texas Lawyer Mr. Wallenstein was named as the real estate lawyer most often selected by other Texas real estate lawyers to represent them in a complex real estate transaction and was a recipient
of the Distinguished Texas Real Estate Lawyer Lifetime Achievement Award, Real Estate, Probate and Trust Law Section of the State Bar of Texas in 2001.

We have one of the most experienced and innovative real estate groups in Texas. We represent clients in all aspects of sophisticated real estate transactions, including buying, selling, developing, operating, leasing, capitalizing, syndicating, and financing real estate projects. Our diverse client base includes lenders and borrowers, landlords and tenants, commercial and residential developers, equity investors, and real estate brokers, pension funds and pension fund advisors, private equity funds, Texas-based real estate developers and investors, property management companies, real estate subsidiaries of major financial institutions, foreign investors, and various individuals and corporations.

Our real estate attorneys’ goal is to do everything we can to help our clients successfully consummate their real estate transaction and achieve their business objectives. We pride ourselves in first understanding our clients’ business goals and motivations, and then bringing a practical and efficient approach to our clients’ desired business objectives. We have the depth and experience to handle, cost-effectively, transactions of nearly any size and complexity.

Glast, Phillips & Murray are a full-service law firm that has the power, abilities and technology depth of a large firm, while we offer the personal service and rates of
a smaller firm. Since 1992, GPM has been dedicated to the goal of building a lean and efficient law firm that offers a full range of legal services to clients. Our attorneys are among the most accomplished in the business. Their passion for excellence and professionalism has fueled the success of this firm. We proudly serve our clients faster and more cost effectively. Unlike many firms that use large teams of fresh-out-of-law school lawyers or junior lawyers, we use small teams of experienced lawyers to serve our clients more efficiently.

Our attorneys have one goal in mind. To offer the highest quality of legal service at reasonable rates to serve our clients’ needs. The Managing Partner, Troy Phillips, regularly emphasizes to attorneys and staff the firm’s first and foremost motto—Excellence with Cost Effective Results. Our rates are lower because we keep overhead to a minimum. While other firms expect their clients to subsidize the training of their less experienced lawyers, we make it our policy to hire only the most experienced lawyers, many of whom have come to us from larger firms and government agencies. This approach, as a result, keeps our clients’ cost lower.

“The preeminent James Wallenstein of Glast, Phillips & Murray PC is noted for his outstanding representation of developers, leaseholders and financial institutions in transactional matters. Sources are quick to describe him as “clearly an excellent lawyer and great to deal with,” and “the dean of north Texas real estate lawyers.”
