Our practice area of Real Estate Law reflects the scope of real estate activity. We have the experience and know-how able to provide advice on the core business of real estate, on complex investment structures including real estate funds, real estate finance, environmental law, construction and planning, land and tax incentives.

The firm has been engaged in several large real estate and tourism projects. The firm was engaged to assist a developer – hotelier with the acquisition, design, reconstruction and rehabilitation of a palace in an historic Lisbon centre, converting it into a boutique hotel and is currently advising within the final stages. In 2016, VCA assisted in the acquisition of a major real estate fund by a German investor, conducting the SPA negotiations as well as the due diligence work on the buildings comprised in the fund’s portfolio. VCA has also been involved in another significant real estate project of a rural touristic development project near a famous Portuguese beach in the South coast of the country.

VCA – Valadas Coriel & Associados was established in 2001 as a small boutique focused in civil litigation and maritime law. In 2009, the firm decided to expand its practice areas. Since then, VCA tripled its number of lawyers building up a very energetic team of partners and associates who combine experience and expertise in litigation, labour, real estate corporate for SME and tax. Nowadays, VCA works in litigation matters for the two largest Portuguese listed companies on a permanent basis, side by side with a practice group focused on SME and private clients. The firm calls itself a ‘lean full service firm’ able to respond to clients across the spectrum of legal issues.

The dynamic, yet informal, work environment of VCA has attracted a number of skillful lawyers from major law firms and ‘big four’ audit firms. Informal alliances and ‘best friends’ agreements, especially in the areas of tax, corporate and foreign investments, allowed VCA to gather resources and expertise both in Portugal and in many other European, Middle-East, African and South American jurisdictions.

VCA’s concept remains unaltered: firm lawyers are ‘combat lawyers’. For VCA – now with 5 partners and 20 lawyers – each case is a project, a battle to be fought and won through devising a strategy, setting specific and measurable targets, performing a cost-benefit analysis bearing in mind time constraints.
