Tom O’Grady is the Head of the Real Estate Practice Group for DLA Piper in the Middle East.

He qualified in both the Republic of Ireland and England and Wales and has over 25 years experience in real estate matters including having spent the last seven years in the Middle East as Practice Group Head for DLA Piper.

  • Advising Gulf Resources Development & Investment LLC on the acquisition, development and leasing of a site for a new headquarters building for Standard Chartered Bank leased on institutional terms on a 15 year lease, including negotiating all of the real estate finance documents, negotiating the purchase of the site from Emaar Properties, negotiating the lease terms with the bank and three other tenants and advising on all aspects of the transaction including the construction contract for the building itself.
  • Advising in respect of the real estate aspects of the acquisition by a joint venture vehicle formed between Mubadala and Gulf Related to acquire a land interest for the development, sub-letting and operation of “The Galleria at Sowwah Square” a 33,000 sq metre retail and dining concept in Sowwah Square, Abu Dhabi.
  • Advising many developers in relation to schemes in Iraq, including advising on all of the leasing provisions and leasing structures for an oil and gas hub near Basra.
  • Advising Msheireb Properties on the preparation of office and retail leasing documentation in respect of the Heart of Doha Project, Qatar.
  • Tom has over 20 years experience of advising developers, tenants and occupiers in respect of major development schemes in the UK and Europe, including the £750,000,000 mixed used redevelopment of the Southgate are of Bath. Advising ETA Star in respect of many of their leading developments in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, including advising in respect of standard form sale and purchase contracts and also community/strata titling in respect of their mixed-use branded residence development at Business Bay.
  • Advising on Management and Operating Agreements/Technical Services Agreements for major international hotel operators.
  • Advising Paramount Hotels & Resorts on numerous deals in the Middle East and globally including hotel management deals, branded residences deals and a deal including the sale of hotel rooms in a hotel to be operated by the company.
  • Acting for a Qatari company on the acquisition of three hotel and leisure sites in Doha.
